We love camper vans. It’s always sunny with a VW campervan. Other motorists smile and wave, and you’ll make friends instantly as you tootle along country roads and motorways. Exploring the country at your own speed.
I’ve found some great deals on camper van experience days, with different Volkswagen vehicles, each with their own personalities. Before I talk in more detail about when you can expect from your camper van experience, here’s my top experience:

I selected this particular camper van break because it’s the cheapest way to experience a VW camper van over several nights. Sure, it’s cheaper just to hire one for a day trip, but what’s the point if you don’t spend a couple of nights in it too?
What happens on a camper van experience?
Once you pick up your camper van, it’s yours to do as you wish until it’s time to bring it back. It’s like looking after someone else’s children. It’s great fun for while and then you can give them back before you get tired of them
What can you do on a camper van experience?
It’s up to you. As I said before, it’s really just a way to rent a camper van for a few days, without all the hassles of MOTs and everything that goes with owning one. These vehicles are all road-legal and you can go anywhere you want. To a festival, to a campsite or maybe just explore the local area. There’s usually a mileage limit included in the price, often about 100 miles per day. This should be plenty unless you’re thinking of criss-crossing the UK in search of ghostly adventures and possibly fighting crime.
What does the typical VW experience include
Every experience is different so when you click through, have a look at the small print before you buy. For example, experiences from Buyagift normally include fully comp insurance for one named driver and full UK AA breakdown cover. Of course you’ll need to buy your own petrol, and keep track of your mileage.
Are the camper vans comfortable?
It’s not superb luxury but it’s perfectly comfortable. Anyway, that’s not why people buy these experiences. If you’re the world’s tallest family or a group of five burly rugby players you can probably spend your money on something more suitable. But I think for a couple, or parents with one or two kids, it’s a great adventure.
The vans are just like small caravans, but with bucketloads of character. They’re advertised as holding up to five people, but in reality it would be a bit of a squeeze and you may end up killing each other. If you don’t know each other very well at the start, you certainly will at the end after being squeezed together for a few days.
Each VW van should have the following:
• Pop top roof
• Double fold out bed for 2 adults
• 2x children’s bunks (ideally for ages 4-10)
• Gas hob and grill with kettle
• Stereo with mp3 player
• Cigarette lighter port
• Table, BBQ, lamp
But again, check with the small print of your chosen experience.
