'McGrotty
and Ludmilla' is the Aladdin story set in modern Whitehall, and describes the
making of the deadliest British prime Minister since Margaret Thatcher. The author
claims it is wholly uninfluenced by the TV comedy series 'Yes, Minister'. Like
his third novel it shows the London career of a young upwardly mobile Scot, but
it differs from that and Alasdair Gray's other books by having a hero who gets
everything he wants, marries and lives happily ever after.
